Text: Christmas antiphon
Duration: ca. 4 minutes
Hodie Re-Imagined was written as a prefix to Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols, op.28. Written to be sung before the plainchant procession, the piece serves as a sonic transition from the wintry outdoors to the warm, welcoming interior of the Ceremony. Through gentle waves of cluster-harmonies, the composition culminates in the emergence of the plainchant processional.
Hodie Christus Natus Est
Hodie Christus natus est
hodie Salvator apparuit:
hodie in terra canunt Angeli,
laetantur Archangeli:
hodie exsultant justi, dicentes:
Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluja
Today is Christ born;
today the Savior has appeared;
today the Angels sing,
the Archangels rejoice;
today the righteous rejoice, saying:
Glory to God in the highest. Alleluia!
